David (1 Samuel 16–17, Psalms): David, the shepherd destined to be king, was a man of profound humility and courage. His humble beginnings as a shepherd did not diminish when anointed as king (1 Samuel 16). David’s courageous act against the giant Goliath with just a sling and five stones exemplifies his unwavering trust in God’s power (1 Samuel 17). His humility is poignantly expressed in the psalms, where he acknowledges his shortcomings and dependence on God.
Jesus Christ (Philippians 2:5–8, Matthew 26–27): Jesus, the Son of God, manifested the ultimate humility by taking on human form and willingly accepting the crucifixion for the sins of humanity (Philippians 2:5–8). His courageous journey involved teachings that challenged societal norms, confrontations with religious authorities (Matthew 21–23), and the profound sacrifice on the cross (Matthew 26–27). The Garden of Gethsemane portrays his immense courage and submission to God’s will (Matthew 26:36–46).
Ruth (Ruth 1–4): Ruth, a Moabite woman, showcased humility by choosing to stay with her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi (Ruth 1). Her courage was evident in her bold approach to Boaz, seeking his protection and care (Ruth 3). Ruth’s humility and loyalty are underscored by her selfless devotion to Naomi and her readiness to embrace a new culture.
Esther (Esther 4:16, Esther 5–7): Queen Esther’s humility is exemplified by her willingness to risk her life to save her people (Esther 4:16). Esther’s courage surfaces as she approaches the king without being summoned, an act punishable by death (Esther 5–7). Her strategic timing and intervention prevent the annihilation of the Jewish people, highlighting both her humility and bravery.
John the Baptist (Matthew 3, Matthew 14:1–12): John the Baptist, a humble forerunner of Jesus, fearlessly preached repentance and prepared the way for the Messiah (Matthew 3). His courage was evident in his bold confrontation with King Herod over his illicit relationship (Matthew 14:1–12), ultimately leading to his imprisonment and execution.
Paul the Apostle (Philippians 3:7–14, 2 Corinthians 11:23–27): Paul, formerly Saul, acknowledged his past as a persecutor of Christians, emphasizing his humility (Philippians 3:7–14, 1 Timothy 1:15). His courageous transformation is seen in his zealous missionary journeys, enduring hardships, imprisonments, and persecution for the sake of spreading the gospel (2 Corinthians 11:23–27). Despite challenges, Paul remained humble, relying on God’s grace and boasting in his weaknesses.
